ARTIST STATEMENT

Lucas Waterbury Enríquez
Producer. Songwriter. Musician
Based in Medellín & Berlin

Throughout my life, I have always used music as a way to express how I feel. For me, emotions are the essence of music. Whether it be pain, sadness, euphoria or melancholy, thanks to music I have a safe way to express my emotions on a daily basis, in Spanish or in English. My artistic process starts with my piano or my guitar and my heart, and then I build on those simple elements to create music that is true to who I am and expresses my whole being. As a result of my musical process as a singer, a composer, a producer, and a piano and guitar player, I hope to convey the authenticity of a feeling and connect with my listeners on a deep emotional level.

My music is also inspired by my life’s experiences. Raised in the United States and Colombia and from a family of musicians steeped in Andean music, I use my music to express who I am and my mixed roots. I am inspired by a broad range of music that includes everything from the harmonic richness of jazz and R&B, and the many sounds that come out of Latin America. In particular, I love how Chet Baker used his voice and horn to express emotion and how Jorge Drexler and Jeremy Zucker both use complex, yet simple lyrics to convey a message. I am also inspired by the beats and melodies of contemporary Latin American artists like Feid’s RMB and Danny Ocean.

Currently, I am based in Berlin, but my casa corazón is in Medellín. Wherever I am, I strive to make my music accessible and I hope that my melodies touch all your senses and emotions eliciting the beauty of a multiplicity of sounds.
